DIFF Club 2004 Annual Meeting
The DIFF Club held its Annual General Membership Meeting at the Fire Department in Pineville, NC on March 13, 2004.
The
meeting was postponed mere days prior to the original date of February
28 due to an incredible snow storm that blanketed the Charlotte/Pineville
area with 19 or more inches. This is not the first time the meeting has
been affected by snow storms, but fortunately attendance this year was very
good with 68 attending (not including board members).
The meeting was preceded by a
delicious lunch of fried fish, french-fries, hush-puppies, and coleslaw.
DIFF President, Roger Wise, called the meeting to order at noon. Roger then proceeded to inform the members of what an unusual year it has been with the big changes in the Island and Camp caused by Hurricane Isabel and the cancellation of our Annual Tournament. He further stated that this would also provide DIFF with a good opportunity to help improve the Island and bring it back to its old glory and better.
Bob
Vogel was scheduled to attend the original meeting but was unable to attend
the rescheduled meeting due to other engagements. Roger relayed that
the NPS had been working hard on new cabins, roads, and water systems.
DIFF work trip plans at present are unknown until we know more about the
tasks that need doing at the camp.
Financial Statement was given by the exiting Treasurer Bill Stiles.
Jack Dunaway talked about the concessionaire (AWFC) and the newly installed
water system for the camp. Mark Weir talked to the club about the
Tournament Rules for 2004 (will be same as for 2003) and explained the
cancellation procedure. Helen Wynnberry told the gathering about the
hunt for Sponsors of the DIFF and Tournament and the Fish With A Ranger
Program (Jim Gaither) that DIFF will be helping the NPS with again this year.
The Honda Generator that was to be raffled off at Tournament was won by James
Tyree of Salisbury (also present at the meeting!)

Barringer (President for 2 years prior to Roger) was presented with a plaque
in recognition and thanks for his service as President. BK has been
President and on the Board several times prior as well!
Roger Wise presented the slate of Board of Directors to the members and the
slate was approved by acclamation.
The meeting adjourned at 12:55.
