DIFF Club 2003 Annual Meeting
The
DIFF Club held its Annual General Membership Meeting at the Fire Department
in Pineville, NC on February 22, 2003. The meeting started with a
delicious lunch of fried fish, french-fries, hush-puppies, and coleslaw.
DIFF President BK Barringer called the meeting to order at 12:00
noon. BK spoke briefly about what the club has done for the Island and
some of the projects in the works.
Roger
Wise and Adam White informed the club of the two planned work-trips for 2003.
The first trip being scheduled for March 31-April 4, 2003 to complete
and augment the latest cabins built by the National Park Service and the
second trip for the weekend of May 31st to work on the roof at the
Cape Lookout Environmental Education Center (CLEEC) near the lighthouse. If

A
representative from CLEEC gave a presentation on the status and purpose of
CLEEC and heartily thanked DIFF for their support.
Bob
Vogel, the Cape Lookout National Seashore Superintendent spoke to the club
about the “Fish with a Ranger” program, status of the Back Road, Cabins,
Park visitor counts, and the parking lot.
DIFF will be assisting NPS with the “Fish with a Ranger” program
which will involve DIFF members helping and showing inexperienced
surf-fishers the arts of baiting and casting.
Jim Gaither is chairing the DIFF effort and can be reached via email

Bob
gave the club the good news about the Back Road being filled and graded which
should mean easier travel to the South Point.
DIFF
Board members presented quick briefs on different projects which included the
newsletter, membership, Tournament, sponsors, website, and current financial
situation.
Nominations
for the Board were presented and the club was asked for nominations from the
floor. With no new nominations
the current board was reelected. The
Board consists of Roger Wise (President), Mike Laughlin (Vice President),
Bill Stiles (Treasurer), Tom Dunaway (Secretary), Jack Davis, Jack Dunaway,
Jim Gaither, Mike Laughlin, Charles Wright, Mark Weir, Adam White, and Helen
Wynberry. BK Barringer remains on the Board as Past President.
The DIFF Annual General Membership Meeting was adjourned at 1:00 pm.
