Diff members will gather on Davis Island for a little fishing and socializing during the club's 17th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament, Sept. 27-29. The club's Board of Directors lifted the cap this year that had limited entrants to 135, and 141 members entered the tournament before the July 31 deadline. Contestants who catch the five biggest fish in six categories will share $6,100 in prize money. The prize-winning species are red drum, flounder, bluefish, whiting and two species that will be determined on the island before the tournament. A number of valuable door prizes, including a custom-made aluminum rod rack by member Steve Barringer, will also be given away. The drawing for the Honda 1,000-watt generator will be on Saturday, Sept. 29. Money from the generator raffle will be used to buy hats and shirt for tournament contestants and to support club projects. The club wants to thank H & S Roofing Co., Inc. for donating the generator and club members Ron White and Roger Wise for once again paying for the lunch

Feeling lucky? Send in those raffle tickets
You'll find generator raffle tickets attached to the newsletter. They cost $5 each. Fill out the stub and mail it to DIFF, P.O. Box 268, Mooresville, N.C. 28115. The drawing for the Honda 1,000-watt generator will be on Sept. 29, the last day of the club's annual fishing tournament. You need not be present to win, but we need to receive the stubs by Sept. 24. Our friends, H & S Roofing Co., Inc., once again donated the generator. Thanks to club member Mark Weir, Ingersoll-Rand of Mocksville has donated another generator that will be given away at the tournament, probably through a silent auction. The 3.5-kilowatt portable generator is a new product line for Ingersoll-Rand, which is best known for its large industrial generators and compressors. Weir, who is also a board member, works for the company.
