DAVIS ISLAND FISHING FOUNDATION was organized in 1979. Its purpose is to benefit Cape Lookout National Seashore and its visitors. We work together to keep Davis Island as wild, barren, desolate and remote as it has been for thousands of years.
The DIFF Club is involved in projects designed to protect fish and wildlife in the Cape Lookout area through activities such as tagging fish for the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries. We support the responsible use of off-road vehicles in compliance with the regulations of the National Park Service.
We educate visitors on the rich heritage of surf fishing through participation in “Fish with a Ranger” and other programs. We encourage fellowship among members by sponsoring spring and fall surf-fishing tournaments, work sessions, and an annual meeting.
We maintain an awareness of activities that could affect Cape Lookout and respond in ways that will best affect the purpose of DIFF. We renovate cabins and island infrastructure on Davis Island to make each visitor’s experience enjoyable.
We CONTACT elected officials regarding legislation or National Park Service regulations that affect the ability of visitors and DIFF members to enjoy the island for its original use of fishing and recreation.
